Senior Safety Program

The Department of Development is now accepting new applications for the Senior Safety program. If you would like to find out the status of your current application, please call 216-348-4066.

The Department of Development’s Senior Safety Grant Program was created to assist income eligible senior citizens in preventing slips and falls in the home and to maintain a safe living environment for the aging homeowner.

Eligible seniors typically have grab bars installed in the bathrooms; hand rails on stair cases, and assist handles at exterior doors. Other items often installed include transition strips between carpet and wood, or linoleum to prevent trips and falls, and carpet stretching. Smoke detectors with lithium batteries and Carbon Monoxide detectors are also provided to the homeowners.

The installation of these items provides seniors with a safe living environment.

A full inspection of the home is performed by the Cuyahoga County Department of Development’s trained Housing Inspectors. A representative of the Cuyahoga County Board of Health accompanies the inspectors and provides the homeowners with valuable information on fall prevention, balance, prescription drugs and home safety.

The Department of Development is working in collaboration with the Cuyahoga County Board of Health and Department of Senior and Adult Services to obtain referrals.

For more information about the program, or to obtain an application, individuals can call 216‐348‐4066.
