New EPA Rule: All Contractors Lead-Safe Certified


Beginning April 22, 2010, the US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) is
requiring that all contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb lead‐based paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 must be certified and must follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination.

Senior Safety Program

  Development’s popular Senior Safety Program recently expanded Countywide to include all Urban County communities. Eligible seniors will have grab bars installed in the bathrooms; hand rails on stair cases, and assist handles at exterior doors, other items often installed include transition strips between carpet and wood, or linoleum to prevent trips and falls,  and carpet stretching. These items are provided at no cost to the participant.

T.E.S.T. Electric

In July 2009, Cuyahoga County marked the official closing of the first loan through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program Developer's Loan program. The $100,000 loan was made to T.E.S.T. Electric, LLC for the acquisition and renovation of the house at 5321 Thomas Street, Maple Heights, Ohio

Tremont Electric

Tremont ElectricTremont Electric, LLC was awarded the first Northcoast Opportunities Loan in October 2008. The company received $55,000 to perform crucial market validation and product engineering finalization related to the company’s nPower™ Personal Energy Generator (PEG). The nPower™ PEG captures the kinetic energy generated from walking or running and uses this renewable energy to power handheld mobile electronic devices such as cell phones, MP3 players, and iPods. Since they received funding, the company has been featured on ABC News, named as “One of the Most Promising Start-ups in America” by Business Week magazine, hosted Governor Ted Strickland at their small office located in the Tremont area of Cleveland, OH, and was featured on NPR’s program “All Things Considered.”
