Mr. Paul Oyaski is an attorney at law serving as Cuyahoga County’s Director of Development since February 2004. As Director, Mr. Oyaski oversees the department’s economic, community and brownfield development services in the state’s largest county (population 1.3M FY 2000).
In addition, Mr. Oyaski administers the CDBG-funded Urban County programming for 47 smaller communities, as well as countywide affordable housing, fair housing and market rate housing programs. Mr. Oyaski was also a lead advocate for the preservation of the CDBG funds in the spring of 2005. Prior to Mr. Oyaski’s employment with Cuyahoga County, he served as Mayor of the City of Euclid, OH.
He was the Chief Executive Officer of the municipal government with over 500 employees and an annual budget of more than $40 million. Under Mr. Oyaski’s leadership, the City of Euclid received a Livable Cities Award from the U.S. Conference of Mayors in 2000, a 1999 East Ohio Gas/Inside Business Award and numerous Tree City USA Awards. While Mayor, the City initiated a new Housing Improvement Program, Cable T.V. programming, and a City Web Site.
Mr. Oyaski was the spokesman for the Northeast Ohio First Suburbs Consortium, focusing on the issues of urban sprawl and regionalism. Mr. Oyaski also served as Law Director, Director of Community Services and Development and on City Council in the City of Euclid. Mr. Oyaski holds a J.D. Degree from the Ohio State University of Law where he graduated with honors. In addition, he holds a B.A. in Political Science from Cleveland State University and is a graduate of Euclid Senior High School. Mr. Oyaski is also a graduate of Leadership Cleveland’s Class of 2000.
Mr. Oyaski is married to Betty Oyaski and has a daughter. He was named to Euclid High School’s Hall of Fame and was chosen Citizen of the Year in 1999 by the Euclid American Legion Post #343.
