Addressing climate change and joining the worldwide green economy are pivotal to County sustainability and regional success.
On November 15, 2007 the Board of Cuyahoga County Commissioners took
specific action through an initiative to protect Cuyahoga County
against the corrosive effects of climate change in northeast Ohio -
- Economically,
- Environmentally,
- Socially
The Cuyahoga County Board of County Commissioners pledges:
- An 80% decrease in the county’s operational carbon equivalent output by 2050
- To facilitate an 80% decrease in county business and citizen carbon output in the same period.
The initiative supports the pivotal 1987 United Nation's World
Commission on Environment and Development that first identified a
Sustainable Development as “development that meets the needs of the
present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet
their own needs”
